My name is Hunter Adkins I am 37 years old I was born with cerebral palsy, I’ve been riding horses for the last 16 years and it has made a huge difference in my life, since I started riding my balance has improved, I am able to stand up taller, I am able to walk longer distances in my walker, meet many new friends and do horse shows, I am more confident in my riding ability now, I am achieving goals that I never thought I would, just last week I was able to get my legs in the proper position over the saddle which I haven’t ever been able to do because I am so tight in my hips. I am now able to help my parents and my attendants with my transfers, I am more flexible and most importantly horses don’t judge and when I’m riding I forget that I have cerebral palsy because when I ride I have no limitations and I’m free!!! I am so grateful for all the wonderful volunteers at red arena who always encourage me when they know I’m having a hard time they are always happy to do whatever I need they are part of my family.
